All the help in Haiti will be great to meet basic needs. There is almost no effort to help heal the trauma, which will keep the people stuck for decades. We plan to help fill that crucial gap. And you have the ability to help us.
As you may know, the billions of dollars provided by such groups as the UN and Red Cross have not helped to uplift the people there at all, although they’ve helped to meet survival needs. Some of this help made things worse, such as people bringing free food, which resulted in local farmers having to go bankrupt. Haiti was the worst place in the Western hemisphere before the earthquake, and there’s now at least as much suffering here as anywhere else on earth.
It’s easy for us to think all the needs are in the process of being met. Please read this emailed message that a psychologist in Port au Prince sent me a few days ago. She’s been assisting in healing the trauma, and doing it alone: “I have been working during this past month as a volunteer. I cannot tell you how much they need assistance and help. The words are just not enough or let’s say that I cannot find any adequate ones to describe what I coped with and what is going on. We need IMMEDIATE help. I cannot do the work by myself it is too much for me I desperately want to help my country. HOW CAN I DO IT BY MYSELF THERE IS NO HELP.”
I’m in the process of getting organized to go do some profound healing re. the trauma and other difficulties that blocks the people in Haiti from moving forward. Along with the more recent trauma from the earthquake this year and hurricanes last year, some of the blocks that must be resolved include the fact that the ancestors of 95% of the people there were slaves, voodoo is a regular practice there, etc
I’ve experienced a great deal of success working with various downtrodden and traumatized groups using the healing work that I do. For example, I’ve done so with homeless people here, with First Nations people who went to residential school, in Sri Lanka after the tsunami, and in India with untouchables last year. The healing work I provide and the training work I do are also very effective with sensitive people here who’ve tried all kinds of other approaches, with little success. This healing work is a combination of cutting edge methods from the West along with ancient healing methods from the East. For more info, you can go to my articles section. There’s an article re. the healing work in India in the articles section under International. I’ll put videos re. the work I did in these various areas online when I have time to bring them together.
Our goal is to go to Haiti in June/July, after the dust settles. A number of people who’ll have taken my Profound Healing workshop will be able to come along to help heal the trauma. The plan is to go a few times with different groups of helpers over the coming year. We need people like you to provide some of them with financial support for them to be able to go. Even $50 would help if that’s all you can afford.
We need the following assistance to help make all this happen:
- You can choose to take our training and come help out. Some of the trainees will prefer to remain here and provide healing work to people in difficulty here.
- People to do support work from home – emailing, researching online, etc.
- Money is the crucial piece – it’s going to cost about $4000 for each volunteer, along with other expenses. Little will happen without your assistance. We also need money to buy things for people as I did in India last year – whether rice, sewing machines to start a business, etc.
The big organizations fund traditional Western approaches, which have completely failed in such places as Haiti and the downtown East Side of Vancouver, except to provide basic needs. We need funding from people like you who have a perspective that encompasses mind, body, and spirit, and relationships, to make this happen. People who believe they can play a direct part in helping to heal the world, want to know the results of their efforts, and have a say in it. People who want to help uplift the downtrodden rather than simply provide them with food and shelter, although these are crucial.
If you want to help make this project a success, please contact Patricia Stevens at pds@telus.net. Let her know how you’d like to help please.
In case you’re interested, I’ve attached a summary of the project in Haiti as well as a copy of our upcoming workshops.
